PYLONS & ROTATORS
RETRACTING PYLON
There are various reasons why a pylon may be retraced from full height:
- To lower the target so it is centered in the Quiet Zone (QZ)
- To store it below the floor so another type of positioner can be placed in the QZ
- Bringing the positioner near ground level to simplify mounting targets
In some cases, the pylon retracts to where the bottom of the positioner is about 2m high, or a bit less because this is a comfortable height to mount targets for testing.
There are three techniques commonly used to retract a cantilevered low RCS pylon:
- The pylon tilts up straight from its 30-degree forward cantilever, then lowers
- The pylon is on a rail attached to a 30-degree sloping ramp underground
- Bringing the positioner near ground level to simplify mounting targets
Different situations call from different solutions to best solve the problems at hand. DSC will work with you to find the best retracting mechanism if pylon retraction will be needed for your chamber or outdoor range.
