High Temperature Testing for RF Transmission Loss
Measuring Material Transmission Loss
This project was to design and build a system that provided data of material transmission loss in programmable increments up to 1,500-degree F (8150C). The oven (the silver part on the left) had four internal positions; 2 for test samples, plus 1 short and 1 open for calibration. During the heat ramp and soak the upper door remains closed. When the heat-soak time has elapsed, the door opens, and the oven moves into each of the 4 test positions. The upper and lower openings of the oven are a special ceramic material that is opaque to infrared but transparent to microwaves. Special shaped antennas focus the microwave energy into the center of the 12-inch square sample areas.
